I don’t just buy super fattening cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting when I go to Publix, I buy extra cream cheese frosting as well ‪#‎2ndtrimester‬ ‪#‎built4winter‬ #foodie — at South Beach Miami

I have a horrible sweet tooth and I’m broke. When I’m bling blingin’, I enjoy fancy sweet things like tres leches and cronuts and Ben & Jerry’s and pot brownies. Since I ain’t been bout that scrilla in a minute, I luckily stumbled into the Dollar Star on Washington Ave. A sign strategically placed throughout the store says “Florida has ruled that is is legal to sell food that is slightly out of date.” Yes, please!

My purchases:
2 boxes of Little Debbie Cakes, buy 1 get one free, $1.09 (they ain’t stale or nothin’)
2 4-packs of Sunkist 10 (they only have the 10 calories) .49 cents each
1 potato hot dog bun 8-pack (will make my fried bologna (baloney?) sandwiches with, $1
1 Starkist fruit punch candle (cause I love for my pied-a-terre to smell all fruity, like me) .25 cents

Extremely popular in south Florida, so I thought I would give them a try. Tastes like a sour sweet dill pickle of sugar and tamarind pulp…yuck!

Trader Joe's

Tampa’s Trader Joe’s has finally opened, and it’s busy as hell. You would have thought the baby Jesus himself was promoting the Curried Quinoa Salad with Mango or something on this Easter Sunday. Conceding that it should have been opened years ago and that I am certainly behind the times, I still love this place! I am such a foodie now…

“Trader Joe’s is no ordinary grocery chain. It’s an offbeat, fun discovery zone that elevates food shopping from a chore to a cultural experience. It stocks its shelves with a winning combination of low-cost, yuppie-friendly staples (cage-free eggs and organic blue agave sweetener) and exotic, affordable luxuries — Belgian butter waffle cookies or Thai lime-and-chili cashews — that you simply can’t find anyplace else.”

My grocery basket:

the Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels $3.49

edamame
Edamame Crackers $2.69
chx
Mandarin Orange Chicken $4.99
pull chx
BBQ Pulled Chicken $5.99
fries
Homecut Fries $1.99
cocoa
Petite Cocoa Wafers $1.99
sesame
Sesame Sticks $2.29
carrot
Carrot Cake Cookies $3.99
mandarins
Dried Mandarin Slices $1.99
jerky
Chicken Jerky Dog Treats

The Gay Road Less Traveled

A friend of mine who used to be one of the hard working under appreciated social workers for the State here in Pensacola has written a book now available on Kindle, John Jernigan’s “The Gay Road Less Traveled.” I purchased it tonight to start it, couldn’t out it down, it was so funny. Graphic, real, and hysterical, John’s writing is endearing, funny, smart and if you happen to be drinking coffee, it may shoot out of your nose at some point during one of his vignettes. You can read it on Kindle.
